Creating this lamp, Lervik begun with the idea of taking a thick tube of pain and squeezing it to layer the paint in circles atop the lampshade. Repetition and tubes of paint recalls artists like the Frenchman Arman, but here, the end result has a different character. The circling of a textile cable around the lamp makes for a more organic, sculptural impression reminiscent of conceptual artists like Louise Bourgeois. She often worked with hanging, textile pieces, sometimes inspired by the weaving of the spider. Her interest in psychoanalysis also influenced much of her work–a wide range of influences, many of which can be read in this piece.
